  • Proof of Onward Travel: You must possess a confirmed return air/sea/land ticket or onward travel ticket to another destination departing within your permitted stay. Open tickets are typically not accepted, and the onward destination cannot be a neighboring country (unless traveling by air).
  • Proof of Sufficient Funds: Travelers may be required to demonstrate that they have adequate financial means to support their stay in Thailand. While the exact amount isn't always strictly enforced, carrying the equivalent of at least 20,000 Thai Baht per person or 40,000 Thai Baht per family is advisable.
  • Accommodation Details: Immigration officers may request proof of your accommodation in Thailand, such as a hotel booking confirmation or the address of your host.   
  • Purpose of Visit: The visa exemption is typically granted for tourism purposes. Engaging in employment without a valid work permit is illegal.

  • Land Border Entries: While the 60-day visa exemption applies to entries via international airports, those entering through land border checkpoints from neighboring countries are generally granted visa-exempt entry for tourism for up to 30 days, with a limitation of two entries per calendar year. Malaysian citizens are an exception to this rule and can enter via land borders multiple times.
  • Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA): Starting May 1, 2025, all foreign nationals entering Thailand under the visa exemption scheme will be required to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within three days before their arrival via the official Immigration Bureau website. This electronic form replaces the paper arrival card and aims to streamline the immigration process.   
  • Extension of Stay: If you wish to extend your 60-day visa-exempt stay, you can apply for a 30-day extension at the Immigration Bureau office in Thailand before your initial permission expires. This extension is granted at the discretion of the immigration officer and requires a fee.   
  • Overstay Penalties: It is crucial to adhere to the permitted duration of stay. Overstaying your visa can result in significant penalties, including fines and potential deportation.
